The current manager of the Mexico national football team, Juan Carlos Osorio is a former Colombian footballer. On 17th June 2018, his team, kick-off their World Cup against defending Champions Germany. Osorio conceded the four-times world champions were tournament favorites but said his team was in with a chance.

Early Life and Education

Juan Carlos Osorio was born on 8th June 1961, in Santa Rosa de Cabal, Colombia. Osorio belongs to Colombian nationality. His father name is Hernan Osorio.

During his young age,  Osorio decided to play soccer. His parents wanted him to be a doctor or a dentist. He went to the University of Colombia for semesters to become a dentist.

Osorio was transferred to America as an international student to Clarke University in 1984. After his playing career ended, he studied exercise science at Southern Connecticut State University, where he played for Bob Dikranian and Ray Reid.

Osorio holds a diploma in Science and Football from Liverpool John Moores University, a UEFA A license from the English FA. He also holds a coaching certificate from the Royal Netherlands Football Association.

Juan Carlos Osorio's Career

Juan Carlos Osorio began his football career with the Colombian football club Deportivo Pereira in 1982. He remained with the club just for two years. He later joined Internacional in 1984 where he played for a year.

Following this, Osorio joined the Once Caldas and where he remained for a year. In the year 1987, he revealed his retirement from the football due to injury when he was just 26.

Managerial Career

Before Juan Carlos Osorio beginning his managerial career in 2006 for a professional Colombian football club Millonarios, he held various assistant coaching jobs that include MetroStars and Manchester City. He became the first coach to win DIMAYOR Excellence in Football Coaching award in 2017 while he was in Millonarios.

Afterward, Osorio was appointed a manager of Chicago Fire and led the team to the Conference Final of the six time in nine seasons. On 10th December 2017, the team announced that he had resigned due to "family reasons".

Following that, Osorio joined the American professional soccer team New York Red Bulls as a manager and led the team to their first-ever MLS Cup final. Besides, the club eliminated by W Connection in the preliminary round of the CONCACAF Champions League. He later resigned the position due to mounting pressure on 21st August 2009.

Osorio was hired by Colombian professional club Once Caldas and helped the team to 2010 league title. It was reported that he would be leaving the team and he officially named himself as the new coach of the Honduras national team. However, the contract could not be succeeded.

Similarly, Osorio served as the manager for Puebla, Atletico Nacional, and Sao Paulo. He was the coach of Atletico that won Categoria Primera (2013-I, 2013-II, 2014-I), 2012, 2013 Copa Colombia and 2012 Superliga Colombiana.

Juan Carlos Osorio was confirmed as the new manager of the Mexico national football team, signing a three-year deal and the first Colombian coach.  He won his first match in charge of Mexico against El Salvador.

Osorio is the manager of the team that claimed the fourth position at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. He was suspended for six games by FIFA as he used insulting words and confrontational behavior against Portugal.

Following the 1-0 win over Panama on 2nd September 2017, his team secured their qualification at the FIFA World Cup 2018. He rejected an offer from the Mexican Football Federation to renowned his deal in March 2018 and state that he has been contacted by other countries.

Personal Life

Osorio stands at the height of 1.76m i.e. 5 feet 7 inches. Juan Carlos Osorio met his wife, Julieth Ceballos in the 90's in New York where she worked as a waitress and Osorio studying and coaching a children's soccer team. They exchanged their vows in 1991 after dating for a year. They have two children together Sergio, 16 and Juan,14.
