Jose Antonio Iglesias Aleman is a Cuban baseball player who has played as a shortstop for the Detroit tigers of major league baseball. He was born on January 5, 1990, in Havana, Cuba. He is the son of Candelario Iglesias. He has also played for the Boston red sox. His father Candelario was the first coach who started to teach him when he was 6 years old.

Iglesias signed an agreement with the Boston Red Sox as an international amateur free agent in September 2009. He defected from the Cuban junior national team with pitcher Noel Argüelles while he was in Canada. He was the sole prospect for the Red Sox on the MLB.com annual list of top 50 prospects where he was ranked 42nd. He was optioned to the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox in March 2011 where he was called up by the red sox. On May 8, 2011, he made his major league debut as a defensive substitute for Jed Lowrie in the ninth inning of a 9-5 win over the Minnesota Twins. He represented the game-winning run scoring from the base on a Carl Crawford double in the 11 innings during his next game. He started the 2012 season in Pawtucket and was called up to Boston after an ailing back sidelined Kevin Youkilis. He did not appear in a game before being sent back down to Triple-A but appeared in late 2012 season to back up mike Aviles and hit his first career home run during this stretch.

He was ranked as the 10th best prospect in the Red Sox organization and 96th on the MLB top 100 prospects list. On May 24, he was recalled by the Red Sox when the third baseman Will Middlebrooks was placed on the DL where he batted .420 for a stretch of over 100 at-bats after being recalled including an 18-game hitting streak that was broken against the Tampa Bay Rays on June 19. He was titled as the American Rookie of the month for June for his great efforts. He played 63 games with a .330 batting average, a home run and 19 RBIs at the starting of the 2013 season while he was with Boston.

Iglesias was traded to the Detroit tigers on July 30 in a three-team deal that sent Jake Peavey and Brayan Villarreal to the Boston Red Sox and Avisail Garcia and Francellis Montas to the Chicago white sox. He chose no. 1 jersey making him the first Tigers player to wear it after Lou Whitaker retired in 1995. On august 2, he drove in a run with a single, helped them to a 2-1 win over the white sox in his very first game as a tiger. He hit his first home run and a solo shot to left field in the fourth inning as a tiger the next night after that match. He batted .259 with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs in 46 games for the rest of the 2013 season with Tigers. He hit overall .303 with 3 home runs and 29 RBIs in 108 games combined with both the red sox and tigers in 2013. He was the part of the Tigers 25-man active roster for their postseason run though he was traded after the all-star break. He batted .231 with a RBI during the postseason. He was titled as the 2013 Detroit Tigers/Detroit sports broadcasters' association Rookie of the Year and finished second in the American league rookie of the year voting in 2013.

Iglesias agreed to a one-year contract worth 1.65 million dollars with the tigers on January 8, 2014. He is under team control through 2018, though his salary had yet to be determined after he signed the contract with the red sox as an amateur free agent expired. He missed the entire 2014 season due to stress fractures in both his shins. He was named as a reserve for the American League at the 2015 all-star game on July 6, 2015. He scored a .300 batting average in 416 at-bats with 17 doubles, two home runs, and 23 RBIs. The tigers avoided compromising with him agreeing on a one-year contract of 2.1 million dollars. He made his one trip to be the disabled list in 2016, after suffering a left hamstring strain but still reached career highs with 137 games, 467 at-bats, and 26 doubles. He finished the season with a .255 batting average, 4 home runs, and 32 RBI. He was named as a Gold Glove Award finalist for shortstop along with Francisco Lindor and Andrelton Simmons.
