Jose Aldo Aims for the Lightweight Debut at UFC 231; Three Possible Lightweight Matchup MMA

There is no doubt that Jose Aldo is one of the best featherweight fighters on the planet and has always proven to be the best for nearly a decade. He is also the WEC featherweight champion and UFC’s inaugural featherweight champion.

But things were not going as he expected in the last three years.

The former UFC Featherweight champion, after 18 match win-streak between 2006 to 2015, suffered a shocking title bout loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 194 in 2015 in just 13 seconds- fastest title match win.

Aldo then had two TKO losses to the current Featherweight Champion Max Holloway. Most recently, he made a great comeback knocking Jeremy Stephens in the first round at UFC on FOX event in Calgary. But it won't be enough to get him the title shot until Max remains the division champion.

So, Alado has expressed his desire to make his debut in lightweight at UFC 231 in Toronto.

Three Possible Lightweight Matchup for Aldo

Justin Gaethje

Fans would love a lot to see Aldo fight Gaethje. After two straight losses, Gaethje has come to track with his recent 1st round KO win. Aldo also had an entertaining fight against Jeremy Stephens.

Justin Vs Aldo fight would possibly be an entertaining matchup and also the contender for the Fight of the Night. And the win for Aldo in December would place him among the title contenders.

Kevin Lee

Kevin Lee is rumored to be on cards in Milwaukee in December but no official announcement has been made. He would definitely agree to fight Aldo at UFC 231 in pay-per-view match if he is offered.

Aldo would not miss the opportunity to move ahead in the lightweights' queue defeating 5th ranked Lee. This would increase his desire to get a rematch against Conor McGregor if the Notorious defeats Khabib Nurmagomedov. Aldo has always wished to face the Irishman after the shocking 13-seconds defeat.

Al Iaquinta

Al Iaquinta has not made his return to the octagon after a loss to Khabib in Brooklyn back in April. He was scheduled to fight Gaethje in August but had to pull out due to injury. So, Iaquinta might be eagerly waiting to make his comeback.

Since most of the top-ranked lightweights are booked, Iaquinta would be the last option for Aldo to shine on his debut defeating the 9th ranked 155 lbs fighter.
