James Jacob Nelson, also known as Jimmy Nelson is an American professional baseball player. Currently, he plays in the Major League Baseball (MLB) side Milwaukee Brewers as a pitcher, wearing the jersey No. 52.

In the 2010 MLB draft, Jimmy Nelson was picked in the second round by Milwaukee Brewers.

He began 2013 season with the Double-A Huntsville Stars. On 5th of June, he was promoted up to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. Further, he got promoted to the major league on 3rd September, making his debut three days later for Brewers. And on 28th September, he made his first league start.

The following season, he returned to Triple-A Nashville and ruled the Pacific Coast League to the tune of a 10-2 record, 114 strikeouts, and 1.46 ERA. On 25th May, he made one spot start for Milwaukee against the Miami Marlins, replacing injured Yovani Gallardo and recorded his very first major league victory, pitching 5 and 2/3 scoreless inning with six strikeouts and three walks.

On 10th July 2014, he was recalled to Milwaukee to join the starting rotation in place of the home run-prone Marco Estrada. Seven days later, he earned his first career base during his start. On 17th September, he got injured against the St. Louis Cardinals when Tommy Pham hit a line drive that ricocheted off his head.

On 8th September 2017, Nelson sustained an apparent shoulder injury and left the game. The following day, it was announced that he was diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain and a partial anterior labrum tear.

He ended the 2017 season with a 12-6 record, 3.49 ERA, and 199 strikeouts.
