Hammond was born under full name Jeffrey “Jeff” Hammond on September 9, 1956, in Charlotte, North Carolina United States of America. This veteran persona holds an American nationality and is of white ethnicity.

Jeff went to North Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte and named 1973-74 High School Prep Football All-American as a cornerback. Upon high school graduation, Hammond attended East Carolina University where he played football for Pat Dye until he underwent with a career-ending injury in 1975.

Jeff Hammond Racing Career

Hammond began his career in 1974 as a tire changer but later started working as a Jackman. In 1982, he was promoted to the crew chief at Junior Johnson Motorsports for Darrell Waltrip and manages to win his second consecutive championships.

The Hammond and Waltrip duo became the top driver-crew chief in NASCAR, winning 43 races in the 1980s and including the 1985 Winston Cup championships.
