Early Life and Education

Jayson Tatum was born as Jayson Christopher Tatum on March 3, 1998, in St. Louis, Missouri, to father Justin Tatum and mother Brandy Cole. His birth sign is Pisces. By nationality, Tatum is an American, and he belongs to the Afro-American ethnicity. He has two younger siblings, sister Kayden and brother Jaycob, both from his father’s other relationship.

Tatum enrolled at Chaminade College Preparatory School, where he initially began playing basketball. He recorded 13.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game during his first year. He was also named 2013 Metro Conference Co-Player of the year and led the team to both MCC and Missouri Districts 2 crowns.

The following year, he averaged 26.0 points with 11.0 rebounds per game.

College Career

He averaged 16.8 points with 2.1 assists and 1.1 blocks per game.

At the end of his freshman year at Duke, he announced he would forgo his final three years of collegiate eligibility and enter the 2017 NBA Draft. He was anticipated as a 1st round selection.

Professional Career

On June 22, 2017, Tatum was the pickled 3rd overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics, which made his team’s 2nd straight choice pick #3 after Jaylen Brown the previous year. In the 2017 NBA Summer League event at Utah, he averaged 18.7 points along with 18.7 points and 2.0 assists with 2.3 steals and 9.7 rebounds.

In Las Vegas, Tatum scored 17.7 points with 8.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.8 blocks in nearly thirty-two minutes. Following his outstanding performance, he was named a member of the All-Summer League 2nd Team alongside Kyle Kuzma, Wayne Selden Jr., Cheick Diallo, and Bryn Forbes.

Tatum made his NBA debut against Cleveland Cavaliers, where he scored a double-double with 10 points and ten rebounds. 

On May 22, 2018, Jayson Tatum was named the NBA All-Rookie First Team. This season, Tatum is a starting player for the Celtics and has been a star in the team’s incredible performance. On December 31, 2018, he recorded a double-double against the Spurs but should not prevent his team from the loss.
