A retired professional football midfielder Jan Kozak made his football career debut and end with the FC Lokomotiva Kosice. He currently serves as a football manager for the Slovakia national football team, since July 2013.  

Early Life

Jan Kozak was born on 17th of April 1954, in Matejovce nad Homadom, Czechoslovakia. He began playing football for Spisska Nova Ves.

Playing Career

Club Career

Jan Kozak signed his first professional contract with Spisska Nova Ves. However, he didn’t make an appearance for the club. In the year 1975, he signed Lokomotiva Kosice and made his professional debut as a footballer. He remained 5 years with the club, playing 149 matches and scored 34 goals.

Then he joined Dukla Prague in 1980. In 1981-82 seasons, he along with his team won the "Czechoslovak First League" as well as "Czechoslovak Cup". After two year spell with the club, he re-signed for Lokomotiva Kosice. For the club, he won "Czechoslovak Cup" two times in 1977 and 1979 respectively.

Kozak played 1986-87 seasons for Seraing and 1987-88 seasons for Bourges.

Kozak again re-signed for Lokomotiva Kosice in 1988. Two years later he retired from football as a player.

International Career

In 1976, Kozak was first called up for the Czechoslovakia national team. He has represented his nation in “UEFA Euro 1980” and “1982 FIFA World Cup”. He has won 55 caps side his national team, scoring 9 goals.

In 1984, he retired from Czechoslovakia national football team as a footballer.

Managerial Career

In 1993, Jan Kozak came out as a football manager for Lokomotiva Kosice. He then plays manager role for FC Kosice. He led his team to win "MARS Superliga" 2 times in 1996-97 and 1997-98 respectively.

For 2002-03 seasons, Kozak managed Michalovce FC team and for 2004-05 seasons he managed Licartovce.  

On July 1, 2005, Kozak signed to Kosice as a football manager. He managed the Kosice football team until 30th June 2013, expanding his contract on 30th April 2012.

International Manager Career

In July 2013, Jan Kozak was appointed as a football manager for the Slovakia national football team. In his team, he has a brilliant footballer including Jakub Sylvestr, Jan Novota, Lukas Pauschek, and Frantisek Kubik

Personal Life

Sixty-three years football manager, Jan Kozak is a married man. Though he has revealed his marital status, the football manager seems to be pretty secretive regarding his marital relationship as he has not shared the identification of his wife, not even name of his spouse. He has already been married for about four decades.

He is a father of Jan Kozak, a retired professional footballer who is a current coach at Slovan Bratislava.
