While playing for The Memphis Tigers men's basketball team, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) ruled James Wiseman ineligible. Wiseman's lawyer, Leslie Ballin, discloed that the NCAA deemed that Hardaway, a Memphis alumnus, had acted as a booster.
However, he was granted a temporary restraining order against the NCAA's ruling, allowing him to keep playing by the Shelby County judge. In mid-November, NCAA's final ruling was declared an 11 game suspension after withdrawing an injunction against the NCAA's ruling.
