He attended Southern High School, too small to run a baseball team, so Diekman focused on golf instead. He eventually joined a baseball team from the American Legion. Jake Diekman Professional Career

Between 2007 and 2010, he pitched first as a starter and then as a reliever in the lower levels of the Philadelphia Phillies ' Minor League system.

In exchange for Matt Harrison, Nick Williams, Jorge Alfaro, Jake Thompson, Alec Asher, and Jerad Eickhoff, Diekman was traded to the Texas Rangers on July 31, 2015.

Diekman was traded for Wei-Chieh Huang and Joshua Javier to the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 31, 2018. On February 13, 2019, Diekman signed with the Kansas City Royals, a one-year contract.
