Early Life of Iago Aspas

Iago Aspas was born as Iago Aspas Juncal on 1 August 1987, to Spanish parents Urbe Aspas Martínez and María Juncal González. He was born and raised in Moana, Spain, along with his brother Jonathan Aspas.

His brother is also a professional football player who plays as a midfielder. Talking about his nationality, he is a Spanish citizen. He joined the youth academy of Celta at the age of 8 in 1995.

Club Career

Celta

Iago Aspas began his professional footballing career since 2006 joining the B team of Celta. He made his first-team debuts in the 2007–08 season with the side in Segunda Division. He made his top-flight debut on 18 August 2012, against Málaga CF. His five successive season with the first team ended up with a total of 139 appearances and 46 goals.

Liverpool

He further made his move to England joining the Premier League club Liverpool on 13 June 2013. His professional debut for the club came on 13 July 2013, scoring his first goal as well as assisting Raheem Sterling in a 4–0 pre-season friendly win against Preston North End.

His premier league debut came on 17 August 2013, providing an assist for Daniel Sturridge against Stoke City. He scored his first goal for the club on 5 January 2014, against Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup. He played second-fiddle to Philippe Coutinho and Sterling. He was further sent on loan to Sevilla.

Sevilla

He further joined Sevilla on 14 July 2014, in a season-long move and with a permanent three-year deal as a following obligatory option. His professional debut for the club came on 12 August 2014, in the 2014 UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid. His first goal for his new club came on 2 October 2014, against HNK Rijeka for the UEFA Europa League group stage. His only season with the club ended up with a total of 16 appearances and 2 goals.

Return to Celta

He returned to his old club Celta on 12 June 2015, signing to a five-year contract with the club. He scored twice in a 4–1 home win over Barcelona on 23 September 2015. He was awarded the "La Liga Player of the Month" for October 2016 after scoring five goals. He still plays for the club.

International Career

Iago Aspas has represented his national team Spain in several tournaments. He made his senior international debut representing Spain on 6 February 2013, in an exhibition game with Uruguay. He finally earned his first start on 15 November 2016, in the 2–2 friendly draw against England. He has won 7 caps for his national side scoring 3 goals.
