Flair signed with Jim  Crockett Promotions and WCW  and won his first world heavyweight championship by defeating Dusty Rhodes for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on 17 September 1981.

He signed with  World Wrestling Entertainment in the September 1991 and went to win the vacant WWE title at the Royal Rumble 1992.
