2012 Vezina Trophy award-winning professional Swedish ice hockey goaltender, Henrik Lundqvist currently plays for the National Hockey League side New York Rangers. In the year 2000, Lundqvist was picked 205th overall by Rangers and prior to this, he played for Frolunda HC in Swedish Elitserien.

Frolunda

Following his successful pre-season, Lundqvist made his Elitserien debut in the season opener in a 2-4 defeat against Brynas IF on 21st September 2000. He played ultimate 5 seasons for Frolunda.

New York

On 8th October 2005, Lundqvist made his NHL debut against the New Jersey Devils, stopping 24 out of 27 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss. 5 days later, he registered his first career NHL win against Devils with his team. On 17th October,  Lundqvist's first career shutout came against Florida Panthers, following it, he became the first rookie goaltender to record a shutout for the Ranger.

In his first season, Lundqvist also captured the first Rangers rookie space to record 20 wins in a season. Moreover, he broke the Rangers rookie goaltending record of 29 wins, previously held by Johnny Bower and Jim Henry, when he made it to 30 wins.

Adding up, he was among the league leaders in several categories: 11th in wins (30), 4th in save percentage (.922), tied for 16th in a shutout with 2, and 5th in goals-against average (2.24).

Furthermore, he was named to the NHL All-Rookie team, along with Andrej Meszaros, Sidney Crosby, Dion Phaneuf, Alexander Ovechkin, and Brad Boyes.

On 4th December 2013, he signed a new 7-year contract extension for an estimated fee of $59.5 million with Rangers, making him one of the highest-paid goaltenders in the NHL with an average annual cap hit of $8.5 million.

So far, he has played 12 seasons for Rangers. Throughout his career in Rangers, he has made the record for most combined games played, most saves in the shootout by a goaltender, most wins by a European-born goaltender in NHL history, fastest goaltender to have recorded 400 wins in NHL history, as well as most shutouts by a goaltender in Madison Square Garden.

Henrik Lundqvist's International Career

Henrik Lundqvist has represented his national side in both junior and senior level, playing in various tournaments as a goaltender of Swedish national ice hockey team. He was a part of 2011 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, where he led his nation to the 4th place.

On 10th November 2002, Lundqvist made his international debut in the 2002 Karjala Tournament in Helsinki. The following year, he was selected third to the “2003 Men’s World Ice Hockey Championship” after Mikael Tellqvist and Tommy Salo.

Lundqvist was the starting goaltender as well as selected to the tournament all-star team at the “2004 Men’s World Ice hockey Championship”. During 2004-05 seasons in the “Euro Hockey Tour”, he was named the best goaltender in “Karjala Tournament”.

Notably, from 2006 to 2010 Winter Olympics, he recorded consecutive minutes without allowing a goal for 172 minutes and 34 seconds.

Others

Besides from his ice-hockey career, Lundqvist served as Rangers spokesperson for the "Garden of Dream Foundation". The foundation serves mostly with Madison Square Garden and its tenants to host charitable events. On 19th January 2012, he launched a clothing line, named the Crown Collection, in order to promote the charity.

In 2014, along with his beautiful spouse, Lundqvist founded the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation. The foundation is a non-profit organization and an international grantmaking organization that focuses on education and health for children and families.

Back in 2007, he made his appearance on the YouTube with a drunk man impersonating Lundqvist. In addition, Lundqvist plays guitar in a Box Play, a Swedish rock band.

Since the summer of 2011, Henrik Lundqvist has been married to Therese Andersson. The two met for the first time back in 1998 while he was playing hockey for Frolunda. They dated almost 12 years before being hooked up in 2011. Prior, they were engaged in the year 2010.

The couple became a proud parent for the first time on 10th July 2012, following the birth of their baby girl named Charlise Lundqvist in New York. Three years later, again his wife gave birth to their second daughter Juli.

The pair is living a blissful married life without any news and rumors about the extra-marital affair, conflict, and divorce.
