Gilbert Burns celebrates birthday with Coronavirus Recovery; Ready to Face Kamaru Usman MMA

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight No. 1 Gilbert Burns was recently tested negative for coronavirus and seemed to have been medically cleared for return. He was dropped from the UFC 251 card in Abu Dhabi against Kamaru Usman earlier in the month. Jorge Masvidal stepped up to fight Kamaru but was defeated via unanimous decision.

Burns revealed that he has beaten COVID-19 through his Twitter account on July 20, which also happened to his birthday. “COVID Free,” he captioned.

Despite being dropped from the UFC 251 title fight, the UFC president has also made clear that Burns would get the next title shot as soon as he comes back. However, he might not wait for Kamaru as he is on a 180-day medical suspension and probably won't fight this year.

The matchup between the top welterweights is expected to be heated as both are on impressive records. Burns (19-3) is on a 6-fight win streak and recently defeated the former champ Tyron Woodley in Las Vegas. Kamaru Usman extended his unbeaten UFC winning streak to 12-0 and has a 17-1 overall MMA record.
