Edward John Belfour or Ed Belfour is a former professional Canadian ice hockey player who played as a goaltender. He is also an Ice hockey Hall Of Famer inductee in 2011.

 

He has played for several hockey teams such as Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and Leksands IF.

Ed’s Belfour’s Early Career

Ed Belfour was born on April 21, 1965, in Carman, Manitoba, Canada. Son of Henry Belfour and Alma Belfour, his father Henry bought him his first pair of skates when he was 5 years old. He was a tough competitor in his neighborhood and always hated to lose.

Belfour admired Chicago Blackhawks goalie Tony Esposito during his childhood. He holds a Candian nationality.

He began his ice hockey journey with Candain national hockey team and later joined the Chicago BlackHawks. After Chicago BlackHawks, he was traded to NHL teams like San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars.

He later signed with Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent in the summer of 2002 and later played for Florida Panthers on July 25, 2006.

Belfor later moved to Sweden and signed with the Swedish second division, Leksands IF in 2007 and later emerged as a fan favorite and played his first game outside US and Canada in a winning cause over Sundsvall.

Belfour retired in 2008 and made 963 regular season appearances and had a record of goals against average as 2.17 and had saved percentage of .920 he compiled over the course of his illustrious career.

Belfour won the William Jennings Trophy four times in his career and won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 1991.

He was included in the NHL’s First All-Star Team in 1991 and 1993 and also won the Stanley Cup in 1999. For his outstanding contribution to the game of ice hockey, he was inducted into the Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011

Ed’s Belfour’s  Personal Life

Besides ice hockey, he has a hobby of collecting and rebuilding classic cars and is a licensed pilot. He was arrested by the police when a woman was frighted by his misdemeanor in a hotel room at Dallas.

Belfour offered the police officer $1 million for his release without charging and later was fined apologized to the Dallas organization. The officer was also charged and punished for resisting arrest and had to pay $3,000 fine.

He is happily married to his wife, Ashli Belfour with whom he tied the knots on December 20, 2001. The couple is blessed with two children, son, Dayn Belfour and daughter, Reagan Belfour.
