Dustin Poirier: This is the beginning of “The Diamond” reign MMA

Dustin Poirier has got his well-deserved opportunity to present his challenge for the lightweight title but on his way stands the mighty Khabib Nurmagomedov. Poirier has fought tough lightweights like Eddie Alvarez, Justin Gaethje, Anthony Pettis earlier but the Russian is the toughest one.

Khabib has his own style and is the most feared opponent in the UFC at the moment. His grappling is onto the next level and he not only defeats his opponents but destroys them.

However, Dustin Poirier is quite confident that he can stop the undefeated Khabib.

“When I go out there and beat Khabib, it’s not a question of am I the best UFC lightweight? It’s a question of am I the best lightweight to ever fight in mixed martial arts with the run I’m on.”

The win will definitely mark Khabib as the greatest lightweight UFC has ever seen but as for Dustin, can the same be said for Poirier if he gets his hands raised after the match? Poirier describes:

“If I go out there and stop Khabib, I’m the best lightweight fighter to ever strap on a pair of four-ounce gloves. Simple and plain. I’m not wrong in saying it.”

“This is the fight that gives me the undisputed title. But on the other side, this is the fight where I etch my name into the history books forever. Because of this win, I’m going to forever be a part of the best of the best of mixed martial arts.”

Poirier's name will be written in history as the first fighter to defeat the Russian but that wouldn't make him the best ever as there will be several others waiting on the other side to take the belt from his including Tony Ferguson and former champ Conor McGregor.

“ I still feel like my best fights are ahead of me. I’m starting to hit my stride. This is the beginning of “The Diamond” reign.”

One thing can be said for sure that Dustin Poirier is ready for a war to achieve this unprecedented piece of UFC glory.
