One of the big faces of Canadian professional hockey Drew Doughty is a defenseman who is also the alternate captain of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey Leauge(NHL). He has won the Stanley Cup twice with the Kings and is also a two-time gold medalist with Canadian National Team.

He previously played for the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League and was drafted in the 2008 NHL draft as the second overall.

Drew Doughty Early Life

Doughty's maternal grandparents immigrated to Canada from Portugal in the 1950s and he is the son of Paul and Connie Doughty born on December 8, 1989, in London, Ontario. On his first birthday, he got a mini stick as a gift and by the age of four Doughty started to play.

He also played soccer as a youth as his father had a history with the game and his sister Chelsea Daughty named is named after the famous soccer team  Chelsea F.C Drew gave up soccer as he thought his skills in soccer would benefit him playing hockey.

International and Professional Career

In 2005, Doughty was selected by the Guelph Strom in the fifth draft for the Strom Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and kicked off the season with 5 goals and 33 points for the Storm in 2005-06 OHL season. 

Doughty played with Team Ontario at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge making his official International debut in 2006.

The 24 years old athlete was voted as the top All-Rookie defenceman in the league by the coaches following a 74 point season in the 2006-07 season and prior to the year, he won both the honors in 2007-08  with a 50 point season.

Doughty made his debut with the senior team, playing in the 2009 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships. He scored one goal and added six assists in nine games, however, the Canadians settled for silver after losing the championship game to Russia, 2–1.

Performing at his best, Doughty played a vital role to take the Kings into the playoffs for the first time since 2002.  The same season due to a wrist injury he had to decline the invitation to play for Canada at the 2013 Men's World Hockey Championships.

Doughty was a star at the 2014 Winter Olympics, where Canada defended its gold medal title. He led the team with four goals and featured prominently on a defensive core which allowed only three goals in six games en route to being undefeated, one of the best team performances in Olympic history.

Doughty was awarded the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the OHL's outstanding defenceman and was also ranked as the third-best North American prospect for the 2008 NHL draft by the National Hockey League (NHL).

Daughty Won the World Championships Silver 2009 Switzerland and then won the Gold Medal at the Winter Olympics 2010 in Vancouver for record Men's ice hockey. In 2014, Drew won his second Stanley Cup against the New Rork Rangers and became the seventh player to win both Olympic hockey gold and the Stanley Cup in the same year.

Doughty earned one of the final spots on the Canadian defense, beating out established players such as Dion Phaneuf, Jay Bouwmeester, and Mike Green. Doughty became the youngest player to represent Canada in a major best-on-best tournament since Eric Lindros participated in the 1991 Canada Cup at the age of 18.
