Early Life

Dion Waiters was born on December 10, 1991, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to parents Dion Waiters Sr. and Monique Brown. As per his nationality, he is American and belongs to the Afro-American ethnic group. He grew up with a brother, Demetrius Pinckney.

Waiters attended Life Center Academy in Burlington, New Jersey where he played for his high school basketball team.

After completing high school, Dion Waiters enrolled at Syracuse University and played for the Syracuse Orange. During his sophomore year of college, he was named the Big East Sixth Man of the Year, earned third-team All-Big East honors and was selected to the All-Big East Tournament team.

Dion Waiters was picked by the Cleveland Cavaliers with their fourth overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft. He became teammates with Kyrie Irving, Tristan Thompson, and Tyler Zeller while at the Cavaliers. He averaged 14.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in his rookie season playing in a total of 61 games.

Waiters stayed at the team until he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder on January 5, 2015. He got the position of a bench role in the 2015-16 season. At the end of the season, Waiters had an average of 9.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

On July 18, 2016, Dion Waiters became an unrestricted free agent when Thunder rescinded a qualifying offer to Waiter. As a free agent, Miami Heat signed Waiters on July 26, 2016.

Waiters ended the 2016-17 season with an average of 15.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while playing for the Heats. Seeing his performance in the season, the Heat re-signed Waiters on July 7, 2017.
