Daniel Mason-Straus was born on July 27, 1984, in Cinnacti Ohio, United States of America. He is of American nationality having an Afro-American ethnic background. Straus came from an abusive and troubled family.
Straus attended Sycamore High School where he was a high school wrestler and he became one of the best wrestlers in Ohio in over a decade from 2001-2010. After completing his education, he moved to Flordia and got employed as a maintenance but was arrested for robbery.
Daniel Straus started his professional career in 2009 and went on to compete for MMA promotion, Shark Fights. Straus signed with American MMA promotion, Bellator MMA in 2010. Straus made his Bellator MMA debut against Chad Hinton and won the bout through a unanimous decision on June 23, 2010, at Bellator 23.
After several impressive performances, Straus won his first Bellator Featherweight Championship by defeating Pat Curran via submission hold through a unanimous decision on November 2, 2013, in Bellator 106 at the fifth round of the bout.

Daniel Straus lost the rematch for the title against Curran in Bellator 112 on March 14, 2014, in the fifth round via submission hold. Straus later won the Featherweight championship for the second time by defeating Patricio Freire on Bellator 145 on November 6, 2015, with a unanimous decision in the fifth round.
Straus later lost the rematch to him that took place in Bellator 178 on April 21, 2017, through the submission hold in the second round. Recently, Straus faced off against Emmanuel Sanchez and lost the match via submission hold on the event Bellator 184 that took place on October 6, 2017, in the third round of the bout.
