Bruce Arena is a former professional American goalkeeper and is currently the head coach of Major League Soccer club, Los Angeles Galaxy. He is considered as one of the greatest soccer coaches in the history of North America.

He was the head coach of the US team at the 1996 Olympics, 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cup. Likewise, he has also been the head coach of teams such as New York Red Bulls and DC United.

Bruce Arena is an American in terms of nationality. He was born to Italian immigrants on 21 September 1951, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

He went to Carey High School and was proficient in several sports. He was considered too small to play American football, thus, he opted to play soccer as a defender.

Arena later went to Nassau Community College and played professional soccer with New York Cosmos. 

He played his only international soccer match for the United States of America against Israel in 1973.

He guided several US colleges to victory but his coaching and managerial career reached his peak when he guided the DC United to win the MLS Cup in 1996 and 1997.

The success with DC United enabled him to win the inaugural  MLS Coach of the Year in 1997.

With the national team, he guided USA soccer team to CONCACAF Gold Cup on two separate occasions in 2002 and 2005 and helped the USA to reach the quarterfinals at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea.

He resigned as the head coach of the USA team after the team failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup at Russia.

Currently, he is serving as the coach of MLS team, LA Galaxy.
