Bianca Andreescu Defeats Angelique Kerber to Win the Indian Wells title; Receives $1.35 million winner’s cheque Tennis

Bianca Andreescu had a remarkable run at the Indian Wells as she went on to secure the title defeating the three-time Grandslam winner Angelique Kerber.

Ranked outside the top 150, The 18 year old Canadian defeated the German star 6-4 3-6 6-4. She was ranked 178th at the end of 2018 but will rise to 24 the after this win.

"It's crazy. Crazy is the word of the tournament for me. Just crazy. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible. The next is a Grand Slam. Let's see where this can take me."

Andreescu said after the win.

She also became the first wildcard player to win the Indian Wells title and also became the fourth youngest title winner in California. She has 28 wins this season- more than any other WTA player.

Bianca Andreescu received $1.35 million in prize money which is four times more than her previous career earnings of $350,000. Kerber who stood runner-up took home $686,000.
