He was born on February 11, 1993 at St. Louis, Missouri. He was born to Ben McLemore II and Sonya Reid. Apart from him, his parents have five other children. He has 2 brothers named Keith McLemore and Kevin McLemore, and 3 sisters among which April Coleman is his elder sister.
He started his high school basketball from Wellston High School. He shifted to both Oak Hill Academy and Christian Life Center in his senior years after when his school got shut down. After his high school, he enrolled to University of Kansas for his further studies. He started his professional career in 2013 where he was picked seventh overall by the Sacramento Kings in 2013 NBA draft. He is still one of the player members for the team.
