Angela James is a Canadian former ice hockey player who played at the highest levels of senior hockey and ended her career in the National Women's Hockey League, NWHL.

James is a certified referee of Canada and a coach too and is currently serving as the Senior Sports Coordinator at Seneca College in Toronto.

Early Life

Angela James was born on 22 December 1964, to Canadian parents, Donna Barrato and Leo James. He attended Overlea High School and moved to Seneca College in Toronto. Talking about her nationality, she is a Canadian.

Professional career

As a Player

James joined Toronto Islanders in 1980, a Senior AA team in the newly founded Central Ontario Women's Hockey League, COWHL. She used to play as a central defender and within a year, she established herself as the league's star. She played in the first women's national championship in 1982, in their 3-2 overtime victory over Team Alberta to win the McTeer Cup.

In 1982, she moved to a team in Burlington, where she stayed for three seasons. She helped her new team to win the Abby Hoffman Cup. After playing for several teams such as Agincourt Canadians, Brampton Canadettes, Mississauga Warriors, and Hamilton Golden Hawks, she won 7 gold medal throughout her career and announced her retirement in 2000.

As a coach and Official

James was certified as a referee in Canada in 1980. As a referee, she was involved in an altercation with a player that resulted in the player becoming the first woman player banned for life from the OWHA. She started her coaching campaign upon her graduation from Seneca College, serving as an assistant coach.

Angela has coached at all age levels of the game, including the national championship. She was named Brampton Thunder head coach in 2010 and quit the job in December the same year.

Personal Life

Angela James is a married woman. She realized that she is a Lesbian while at her teenage. She got married to her partner Ange. The couple first met each-other in 1994 and began dating. After dating for two years, the couple formalized their relationship in a commitment ceremony two years later and got married in 1996.

The couple together has three children, her partner Ange gave birth to their first son, Christian in 1999. Angela gave birth to fraternal twins, son Michael and daughter Toni, in 2004. The couple doesn't make public appearances together frequently, maybe they want to have their relationship out of the limelight.
