André Burakovsky is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who plays as a forward for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL).

 

The young talent is a Stanley Cup champion, having won with the Capitals in 2018.

Andre Burakovsky was born on 9th February 1995, in Klagenfurt, in southern Austria where his father, Robert Burakovsky was playing hockey at the time, but grew up in Malmo, Sweden, his father's hometown.

Andre Burakovsky's Playing career

In the 2012 KHL Junior Draft, Burakovsky was picked 102nd overall in the third round by SKA Saint Petersburg and was selected 23rd overall by the Capitals in the first round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Malmö Redhawks

In the 2011–12 season, Burakovsky made his professional debut with the Malmö Redhawks of HockeyAllsvenskan. Further, he won his first silver medal playing with Team Sweden at the 2012 IIHF World U18 Championships.

Washington Capitals

On 4 September 2013, Burakovsky penned a three-year entry-level contract with the Capitals. He then joined the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League for the 2013–14 season. On 9 October 2014, he scored his first NHL goal in his NHL debut, against Dustin Tokarski of the Montreal Canadiens.

On 22 January 2017, Burakovsky scored the game’s first goal against the Dallas Stars for the fourth consecutive game, tying the NHL record for the most consecutive team games scoring the first goal, which was previously achieved by Jonathan Cheechoo during the 2007-08 NHL season.

On 4th 2017, Burakovsky signed a two-year extension contract worth $6 million with the Washington Capitals.

Further, Burakovsky missed 10 Stanley Cup playoff games due to an injury. Rebounding from injury, he returns with a bang and scored two goals in Game 7 against the Tampa Bay Lightning, leading his side to the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals. Despite his struggles, Burakovsky won the Stanley Cup with the Capitals on 7th June 2018.
