Alireza Jahanbakhsh was born on August 11, 1993, in Jirandeh, Gilan, Iran. Regarding his nationality, he is an Iranian.

Jahanbakhsh grew up with his brother, Mohammadreza Jahanbakhsh. When he was two, his family moved to Qazvin, where he spent childhood. He watched legend footballers like Ali Karimi, Vahid Hashemain, and Mehdi Mahdavikia.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh’s Career

Alireza Jahanbakhsh played for Payam Alborz Qazvin, Persian Qazvin, and Damash Gilan during his youth career. On July 1, 2010, Jahanbakhsh was promoted to the first team of Damash from Damash U19. For the team, he played 12 matches. Alireza Jahanbakhsh was sent to Damash Gilan on July 1, 2011, on a free transfer and made his debut against Mes, Iran Pro League and became one of Dimash's Youngest ever players.

Jahanbakshsh scored his first goal in January 2012 in a 1-0 win over Fajr. Before leaving the club, he scored ten goals in 44 appearances. On July 1, 2013, Jahanbakhsh moved to NEC Nijmegen with the transfer fee of €250 thousand on a three-year deal and made his debut against RKC Waalwijk. He scored his first goal for the club in an 8-0 victory against Harkemase Boys, KNVP Cup.

In December 2013, Jahanbakhsh made one assist and scored two goals in a 3-2 win against AZ Alkmaar. He scored a goal on the opening day of the 2014-15 season against FC Eindhoven. On February 1, 2015, Jahanbakhsh scored a bicycle kick and was named the man of the match against Helmond Sport in a 3-1 win.

In May 2015, Alireza was named the Eerste Divisie’s best player of the 2014-15 season, with twelve goals and eighteen assists. Jahanbakhsh is a team member that won the Eerste Divisie in 2014-15. Later, he left the club in 2015, where he played 55 games and scored 17 goals.

On August 3, 2015, Jahanbakhsh signed a five-year deal with AZ Alkmaar with a transfer fee of €1.80 million. He wore Number 9 Jersey and made his Eredivisie debut on September 12, 2015, in a 3-1 win against De Graadschap. He made his UEFA Europa League debut against Athletic Bilbao in October 2015, and his first assist came on November 21, 2015, against Heerenveen.

Jahanbakhsh switched from Number 9 to Number 7 for the 2016-17 season. He scored his first and winning goal against FC Utrecht on August 28, 2016. He was a team member that won a silver medal in KNVP Cup in 2016-2017

On 25 July 2018, Jahanbakhsh joined Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, signing a five-year contract. In early 2022, The player moved to Feyenoord in the Dutch league.

In 2010, Jahanbakhsh made his international debut with the Iran U-20, with whom he played 17 games and scored 11 goals. Jahanbakhsh was a member of the U20 team that won the AFF U-19 Youth Championship in 2012. Jahanbakhsh was a team member that won 2010 AFC U-19 Championship and the 2012 AFC U-19 Championship Qualification.

Iran U-23 invited Jahanbakhsh in March 2015 as a captain. While he was captain, the team qualified for Qatar's 2016 AFC U-23 Championship. For the U-23, he scored 1 goal in 6 appearances. Alireza Jahanbakhsh held the second position in the greatest young talent of the 2013-14 Eredivisie season in 2014. He is the agent of AFFG/Wasserman. He has represented his national team at World Cup Qualification, International Friendlies, World Cup and AFC Asian Cup.

On October 15, 2013, Jahanbakhsh was called by a senior team for the 2015 Asian Cup Qualifier against Thailand by Carlos Queiroz.
