Akebono Taro is an Asian-American professional wrestler and a former sumo wrestler from Waimanalo, Hawaii. He was one of the tallest and heaviest sumo wrestlers ever to reach the top rank in the professional sport. He currently works as a professional wrestler. Currently, Taro is under contract with a Mixed Martial Arts organization called Rizin Fighting Organization.

During the summer of 1992, he won consecutive championships in November 1992 and January 1993. Further, he was promoted to the highest rank in Sumo, which is Yokozuna.

At the opening ceremony of the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Akebono was given the honor of representing Japan in the opening ceremony.

On March 31, 2005, Akebono made an appearance on SmackDown to accept the Big Show's challenge to a sumo match at WrestleMania 21, where Taro defeated Big Show. Akebono made his wrestling debut later that night, defeating jobber Eddie Vegas

Regarding personal life of Akebono Taro, he is 49 years as of 2018. He is a former successful sumo wrestler and is currently working as a professional wrestler.  Taro was engaged to a former television celebrity, Yu Aihara in 1996. They broke up the following year due to some personal misunderstandings.

Later, in February 1998, Akebono announced his engagement to Christiane Reiko Kalina, a teacher who is of Japanese and American descent. They married in September 1998, and have three children; two sons and a daughter. Taro's current spouse works as a teacher.

During April 2017March 2018, Taro lost nearly  130 pounds, because of a serious cardiac condition. 

Akebono is one of the tallest sumo wrestlers ever, standing at 6 feet 8 inch (2.03m) tall, and also one of the heaviest with a weight of 210 kg (463 lb).
