Adrian Peterson is an American footballer who is currently playing for the Washington Redskins of the NFL as their running back. He has been setting college records since his freshman years in the college and has continued to set records in his professional level of play as well.

Adrian Peterson was born on March 21, 1985, in Palestine, Texas to parents Bonita Brown and Nelson Peterson.  Adrian Peterson's birth name is Adrian Lewis Peterson. His parents were also starring athletes in college like he is. He grew up with his older brother Brian

His elder brother was killed at the age of 9 by a drunk driver. Peterson who was 7 at the time witnessed the tragedy unfold. To deal with the pain of seeing his brother die, he dived into sports and became interested in sports. He began playing for the Anderson County Youth Football program.

Adrian Peterson Career

Peterson joined the University of Oklahoma for his college years and played for Oklahoma Sooners football team. In his freshman season, he set his first NCAA record for a freshman rushing record with 1,925 yards. In the first nine games of the season, he rushed for more than 100-yards which was another record for a freshman to have. In 2005, he was named a member of the All-Big 12 conference team.

Adrian Peterson name was entered in the 2007 NFL draft. He had been drawn a comparison to the NFL legends of the past such as Eric Dickerson, Walter Payton, and Gale Sayers. His first contract as a rookie was with Minnesota Vikings worth $40.5 million over five years of which $17 million was guaranteed. 

His professional debut with the Vikings came on August 10, 2007, in a preseason game against the St. Louis Rams. He was named the Offensive Rookie of the Month in September and October of 2007. He set the NFL Single-game record in week 8 by rushing 296 yards. By the end of the season, he had 1,341 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The year 2012 became the comeback season for Adrian Peterson as he was coming out of the injury from the previous season. He ended the season with 348 carries and 2,097 rushing yards. That season Peterson was awarded the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award as well as the NFL Most Valuable Player awards. This coupled with the fact of him playing the last quarter of the season with an injury earned him the respect of many.

Peterson was indicted on child abuse charged in 2014 which caused him to be deactivated from the Vikings games. He was also placed on the NFL's Exempt/Commissioner's Permission list which stopped him from remaining with any team activities. He was suspended for the remainder of the season without any pay. The season of 2014 would be a dark time in Adrian Peterson's career.

Peterson returned to play for the team the following season and ended the season with 327 carries, 1,482 rushing yards, and 11 touchdowns. He was selected for the fourth time as a First-Team All-pro and was also picked for career Pro Bowl making it his seventh appearance. He was released of his 2017 optional contract by the Vikings on February 2017 making him a free agent.

Peterson was picked by the New Orleans Saints in April of 2017. He signed a $7 million contract for two years which included a $2.5 million signing bonus. On his first game with the team, he had to face his former team the Minnesota Vikings and lost with a score of 29-19. In that game, Dalvin Cook broke the team record previously held by Peterson.

Peterson was traded to the Arizona Cardinal in October of 2017. Though he showed some impressive performance during the start of the season, he was sidelined for two weeks due to a neck injury. Adrian Peterson finished his 2017's season with 529 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, 11 reception and 70 receiving yards which were a poor performance compared to his past achievements. He was released by the team in March of 2018 and was signed by Washington Redskins in August of 2018.
