Aaron Ekblad Professional Career

Ekblad was selected by the Florida Panthers for the first time in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft on June 27, 2014. He then signed his first contract with the Panthers in the NHL on September 3, a three-year entry-level deal. 

Ekblad made his debut at the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 9. He scored his first NHL point in the game, an assist on a goal by Jonathan Huberdeau, in Florida's eventual loss in overtime of 3-2.

Ekblad later scored his first goal in the NHL on November 1 against the Philadelphia Flyers' Steve Mason in a 2-1 Panthers win.

On April 23, Ekblad, along with Ottawa Senators' Mark Stone and Calgary Flames' Johnny Gaudreau, was named one of three finalists for the Calder Memorial Trophy.

Ekblad and the Panthers agreed on an eight-year extension of $ 60 million on July 2, 2016. On February 3, 2018, in each of their first four seasons, Ekblad became only the 15th defensemen in the history of the NHL to achieve double-digit goals.
