Kevin Stewart Barker was born on July 26, 1975, in Bristol, Virginia, to a family that was quite into sports. He showed an interest in baseball very early in his childhood and played for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, better known as Virginia Tech.
At Virginia Tech, he used to play for the Virginia Tech Hokies and began developing career-defining skills.
Kevin Barker was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers right out of high school in the 3rd round of the 1996 MLB June Amateur Draft.
