Casey Close is an American Sports agent who is also a former professional baseball player. Casey also played baseball during his college years for the Michigan Wolverine baseball team. He was inducted into the University of Michigan Athletic Hall of Honor in 2011.

 

Casey Close is married to former Miss America Gretchen Carlson. 

Casey Close's Early Life

Casey Richard Close was born on October 21, 1963, in Columbus Ohio. There is no wiki information and bio about his parents. Close graduated from Worthington High School and attended the University of Michigan on a baseball scholarship. During his freshman year, he hit a grand slam to help Michigan advance to the final four in the College World Series.

Close won the batting triple crown in the Big Ten Conference in his senior year. He became the team captain of Michigan Wolverines in 1986 and also became the Big Ten Conference Player of the Year, the Baseball America National Player of the Year, a first-team All-American and the Big Ten Medal of Honor winner.

According to Barry Larkin father of Shane Larkin and Close's former teammate, Close had a great arm, power, and bat but didn't have a lot of speed.

Casey Close's Career

Case Close was drafted in the 1986 MLB Draft. He was picked by the New York Yankees in the seventh round of the draft. His career as a professional baseball player was short lived and he only played until the 1989-1990 season.

During his professional plays, he played for teams such as Oneonta Yankees, Albany-Colonie Yankees, Columbus Clippers and Calgary Cannons. He did not have an impactful career as a professional baseball player. One of his best season in professional baseball remains the 1989 season when he appeared in 95 games for Calgary. He ended the season with .330 batting, .503 slugging percentage, 38 extra base hits and 56 RBIs.

Casey Close left professional plays and shifted towards being a sports agent instead. in 1992, he became part of the baseball division being associated with IMG. He became the representative of Derek Jeter in 1993 and continued to be his agent throughout his Major League Career. He left IMG in 2006 to be a part of Creative Artists Agency.

Today Close is one of the leading sports agent representing Major League Baseball players. The players that he represented include Ryan Howard, Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Derrek Lee, Ben Sheets, Michael Cuddyer, Josh Hamilton, Eric Milton, Kenny Lofton, and Richie Sexson.

Casey Close's Personal Life

Close married Gretchen Carlson in 1997. His wife is a former Miss America who was selected in 1989 and has her own show The Real Story With Gretchen Carlson, on the Fox News Channel. He has two children; daughter Kaia and son Christian of his marriage with Carlson. He has not divorced his wife and currently lives with his family in Greenwich, Connecticut.
