Annika Sorenstam Started Playing Golf From Her Young Career

As mentioned earlier, Annika is from an athletic family and was introduced to golf during her junior career. At 12, she shared her first set of golf clubs with her sister. She impressed the coach with her game at a collegiate event in Tokyo. Sorenstam also moved to the U.S. to pursue her career in golf. 

Similarly, Annika attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, where she started playing golf. During her college golf career, she also victoried seven collegiate titles. As a non-American and first freshman, she was the first player to win the individual NCAA Division I.

Moreover, Annika began her professional career in 1990. After missing her LPGA card at the final qualifying tournament, she was invited to play in three LPGA Tour events in 1993. In the same seasons, she bagged $47,000. In the United States, Annika also made her Solheim Cup debut. 

In 1996, Sorenstam won her home LET tournament and made another history by becoming the first non-American to win back-to-back U.S. Women's Open titles. Following the years, she won six tour events in 1997. The player grew up each year and won multiple titles in her name.

Annika's Comeback as a Senior

Annika is still active in her golf career, and after turning 50, Sorenstam was eligible to play in the 2021 U.S. Senior Women's Open.

The tournament was played at Brooklawn Country Club, Fairfield, Connecticut, and she won it by 8 shots. Before competing in the senior open, she also competed in her first LPGA Tour event since 2008.
