Richard Krajicek Biography

Richard Peter Stanislav Krajicek famously known as Richard Krajicek is counted amongst the greatest players in the tennis history. In the 1996’s, he won the men singles title at Wimbledon and is the only Dutch player to do so. In the quarterfinals of the same tournament, he defeated Pete Sampras in straight sets.

Early Life

Krajicek was born on 6 December 1971 in Muiderberg, Netherlands. His parents Petr Krajicek and Ludmila Krajicek are Czech immigrants. This former tennis player is of Dutch nationality and his zodiac sign is Sagittarius. His younger sister Michaella is also a tennis player who won three singles and six doubles titles on the WTA Tour.

Career

When he first arrived in the tennis world, he was just four years old. As a youngster, he won the Dutch under-12 and the under-14 National Championships twice as well. He turned professional in 1989 and subsequently after two years in 1991, he won his first top-level singles title in Hong Kong as well as his first tour doubles title in Hilversum.

Krajicek reached his first Grand Slam semifinals at the Australian Open. He kept out himself from the semifinal match due to the severe shoulder injury. The same year, he manages to reach the semifinals at a French Open, where he lost in four sets to the defending champion Jim Courier.

Coming out in the 1996 Wimbledon, with the full potential, he defeated the World Top player Pete Sampras in the quarterfinal. Then, he beat Australian champion Jason Stoltenberg in the semifinals and won the final in the straight sets against the American player MaliVai Washington.

Krajicek took a retirement from tennis world in 2003. Throughout her career, he bagged 17 singles and 3 double titles. Since his retirement, he serves as the tournament director of ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.

Personal Life & Affair

Krajicek personal life is as awesome as his professional career. He married his long-term girlfriend Daphne Deckers, who is Dutch model, host, writer, and occasional actress and appeared in the movie named All Stars (1997), and Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).

The lovely couple celebrated their wedding after having an affair in 1999. The couple shares two children together; Emma who is an emerging actor & model and Alec as a son.

Besides his career, he loves traveling along with his wife and children. His favorite holiday destination is Los Angeles. Deckers also works as an ambassador for the Nationaal Fonds Kinderhulp. She also launched her own lingerie line, TC World of Women.

Krajicek also published a book based on tennis called Fast Balls (Dutch: ‘Harde Ballen’). Moreover, he is also the prominent member of the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD).
