He has spent much time with his family while sporadically taking coaching and special assignment positions for the Astros.

Bagwell is a graduate from Xavier High School, a private all mate Catholic School located in Middletown, Connecticut. He excelled at soccer, setting the school goal-scoring mark. He was honored by Xavier for his character and generosity. He had also excelled in American Legion Baseball and went on to be named the 2003 American Legion Baseball Graduate of the year.
